Fifty-nine more people have died due to Covid-19 complications in South Africa, as 1 149 more people have been infected with the virus in the past 24 hours, the Department of Health said on Wednesday.

“Today the NICD reports 1 149 new Covid-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 908 768. This increase represents a 3.2% positivity rate.

She said there were 103 people were admitted in hospital due to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of people hospitalised due to the virus, to 5 874 in public and private medical facilities currently.
