This week’s events around Metro Vancouver include Adia Victoria, outdoor screenings at the Polygon, and North Shore Jazz.
Agnès Varda’s 1962 nouvelle vague classic Cleo from 5 to 7 screens June 30 with Deckchair Cinema, part of the new summer series The Polygon Outside. The by-donation series takes place on Cates Deck on the waterfront in front of Polygon Gallery and also includes Kids First, a Sunday afternoon family-friendly art project based on the North Van gallery’s summer exhibition Ghosts of the Machine.
American singer/songwriter Adia Victoria performs tracks from her latest album A Southern Gothic at the WISE Hall July 1.WISE Hall, 1882 Adanac St.Inspired by Alan Lomax’s old field recordings of Black folk and blues musicians, Adia Victoria explores her Southern roots on her third album, A Southern Gothic. According to npr.org, the singer/songwriter “emerges as a songwriter capable of nuance and atmosphere.
