Sundowns were in cruise control over their opponents at the weekend and it's not an unfamiliar position for them, having registered some big wins in the past in the continental club competition. The one which probably stands out the most for the Sundowns supporters is the 5-0 win over Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the first leg of the quarterfinals in 2019. The victory was inspired by goals from Themba Zwane, Wayne Arendse, Ricardo Nascimento, Gaston Sirino and Phakamani Mahlambi.
During the 2018/19 season, Sundowns cruised to a 5-1 victory over Leones Vegetarianos in the second leg of the preliminary round. The goals were scored by Jeremy Brockie, Sirino, Hlompho Kekana, Jose Ali Meza and Lyle Lakay. The Tshwane giants won the two-legged tie 7-1 on aggregate after beating the West Africans 2-0 in the first leg.
