The drastic decision to deploy SANDF members to power stations in South Africa was reportedly informed by intelligence services and could ramp up or down depending on the effect and response to the deployment. The SANDF said that the army would be working to support the SAPS in protecting the power stations from theft, vandalism, sabotage, and other acts of criminality.
[The results of the ANC’s elective conference show that former president Jacob Zuma’s star is fading, and the stronghold for his supporters – KwaZulu Natal – is not as influential as it once was. For a second time in a row, the province’s preferred candidate has lost at the conference, and only two names it put forward made it into the top 7 – but only with support from other provinces and interest groups.
