A look at how Jimmy Garoppolo fared in his return to the starting lineup following last week’s injury to quarterback Trey Lance.

We’ve seen this movie before. Jimmy Garoppolo can’t do enough at quarterback for the 49ers to pull away, giving Russell Wilson a chance to pull out a win that could have been a loss.to the Denver Broncos. Wilson is now 5-1 against Garoppolo and 18-4 against the 49ers, with all previous games coming as quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks.

Two of Garoppolo’s mistakes didn’t include a thrown ball – a fumbled snap exchange with center Jake Brendel for the 49ers’ first turnover and then losing track of where he was and stepping on the end line for a third-quarter safety as Denver closed with 7-5 in the third quarter. “Tried to buy some time for it, a long-developing play,” Garoppolo said. “It was just a tough situation, that whole thing.”

“I thought he played real well in the first half,” Shanahan said. “I mean, I thought he hit some plays that were there and made some that weren’t there. In the second half, I don’t think anyone did well on offense including myself.” “I was thinking about it, it was kind of my first week with these guys, especially on third down,” Garoppolo said. “We were terrible today. I’ve just got to get on the same page with those guys and we’ve got to convert those.”
