Speedy SMU wide receiver Danny Gray in theory will give the 49ers an instant deep threat.
SANTA CLARA –The 49ers closed out the third round of the NFL Draft Friday night with the selection of SMU wide receiver Danny Gray, at No. 105 overall.
Without a pick in the first round after last year’s deal with Miami to trade up from No. 12 to No. 3 and draft Trey Lance, the 49ers first selection on Day 2 was Drake Jackson, an outside linebacker and edge rusher out of USC in the second round at No. 61 overall. At 6-foot, 180 pounds, Gray is a Texas high school sprint champion who has the kind of speed the 49ers need to stretch the field having run a 4.33 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. Gray came with a reccommendation from SMU coach and former Cal coach Sonny Dykes.
