The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace SUV was recovered after being completely swamped with water
The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace SUV, which retails for around £35,000 new, was totally engulfed in water after it was found abandoned on the beach at Cleveleys on Saturday morning . The coastguard rushed to the scene to check that no-one was inside and 'in danger'.
HM Coastguard Fleetwood said when they arrived at the scene at around 5.30am, they found the car on the beach near Cafe Cove. However they were left with 'no choice other than to let the tide come on and do its worst'.Pictures shared on Facebook show the car slowly being lost to the sea. After the tide went out, a salvage crew was brought in to tow the vehicle from the beach yesterday afternoon.
A large crowd gathered at the scene to watch the vehicle be taken from the scene. The pictures also showed the car to be without registration plates, raising the possibility that it had been stolen. In a statement, HM Coastguard Fleetwood said: "Team was paged at 05:30 to assist Lancashire Police with an abandoned vehicle on Cleveleys Beach near Cafe Cove. We attended with the surf just reaching the vehicle and it was quickly established that there was no one in the car and no one was in danger.
"We had no choice other than to let the tide come on and do its worst. As soon as the tide receded Wyre Borough council came and recovered the vehicle."
