A joint operation by multiple law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of a 33-year-old woman suspected of smuggling drugs into South Africa by concealing them within her body.
A multi-disciplinary, intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect for drug possession at Cape Town International Airport on Sunday, March 16. Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, a police spokesperson, stated that the team acted upon information received about a suspect who had boarded a flight from Brazil to Cape Town.
The operation involved a collaboration between the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Border Police Cape Town International Airport, Customs, Home Affairs, and the Plattekloof Forensic Science Laboratory. \SANEB members, working alongside the Border Police at Cape Town International Airport, followed up on the intel. The suspect was identified, and a subsequent search revealed that she had ingested an undisclosed quantity of drug pellets. She is currently hospitalized in an effort to safely remove the swallowed drugs. \Upon being charged, the suspect is anticipated to make her first court appearance at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 18
