Behind seven blocks from Wembanyama, the Spurs snatched a 122-115 decision at the Moody Center in Austin.
AUSTIN – Victor Wembanyama was already up to six blocked shots late in overtime Sunday. He had to wait a few minutes for officials to determine if he had just made his seventh. Referees initially ruled his block of a layup attempt by Brooklyn’s Dennis Schroder a goaltend, which briefly put the Nets ahead by a point. Before officials walked to the video monitors to confirm the call, Wembanyama huddled with one of them. “I just casually asked what he thought was wrong,” the Spurs rookie said.
For Victor Wembanyama, the power of politeness prevails Wembanyama led the way with 33 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and those seven blocks. He had 17 of those points, seven of those rebounds, five of those assists and three of those swats during a masterful second half that saw the Spurs overcome an 11-point deficit to force overtime and snag the game. Devin Vassell added 25 points, while Keldon Johnson supplied 24 off the bench, including five 3-pointers.
