On Wednesday, 20 March 2024, SAPS members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team received information of a truck being loaded with copper cables and traveling in the Umbilo area.
Members responded and managed to stop the truck. Upon questioning the driver, with his passenger, they confirmed that they were transporting a load of copper. The premises where the truck was loaded with the copper was also further identified. The EITT members searched the premises.
The exhibits that were seized was 3.5 tons of stripped copper cables, one electronic scale and the truck transporting the copper wire The estimated value of the copper wire is R500 000. Ethekwini District Commissioner, Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa said, “I commend the SAPS Ethekwini Economic Infrastructure Team, working closely with all role players ensuring that a successful arrest was made and over 3.5 tons of stripped copper wire was recovered.”The views of authors published on South Africa Today are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of South Africa Today.
