25th Annual Penguin Plunge on City Island
Participants make their annual jump into the Susquehanna River on City Island on New Year’s Day in Harrisburg during the 25th annual Penguin Plunge.
Naomi Hedrick works in the veterinary field and participated in the plunge for the fifth time this year. She said she was excited to be back after last year’s cancellation. She was joined by 20-year-old Nicholas and 18-year-old Katrina.This year’s Plunge saw its sponsor, the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, partner with the newly-opened Harrisburg Beach Club. The beach club hosted an after party right after the plunge, complete with drinks, a food truck, music and fire pits.
After a 10-second countdown right at noon, the participants sprinted into the water, letting out shrieks of joy.
