AWS Country Manager for South Africa, Chris Erasmus , recently spoke at the 2024 MyBroadband Cloud and Security Conference, where he discussed AWS ’s commitment to sustainable development in South Africa.
AWS first launched data centre infrastructure in South Africa in 2018 and has since expanded to have four availability zones in Sub-Saharan Africa: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi, and Lagos. It offers 10MW of power and is 60% owned by black women — a historically underrepresented group in infrastructure and utility ownership.
“AWS has committed to help 29 million people worldwide grow their tech skills with free cloud computing skills training by 2025,” Erasmus explained.
