The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged all political parties in the country to adhere to timelines for the conduct of their primary

elections to produce candidates for the 2023 polls, insisting that the deadline remains Friday, June 3, 2022.

A statement made available to LEADERSHIP on Thursday in Abuja signed by INEC national commissioner and chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said in compliance with Section 82 of the Electoral Act 2022, all 18 political parties have served the required notices indicating the dates for their conventions, congresses, and primaries to nominate candidates for various elective offices as specified in the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.

In the statement titled, “Adherence to Timelines for the Conduct of Primaries by Political Parties”, Okoye said given the importance of the exercise to the emergence of candidates for the various elective positions for the 2023 General Election, it was imperative to remind political parties that they have one month from this Thursday to conclude their primaries.
