Sars allegedly lost out on R7.5 million in tax fraud committed by Durban businessman Toshan Panday and others during the Fifa World Cup.

Panday is facing 27 tax fraud charges amounting to approximately R7.5 million relating to the 2010 Fifa World Cup. There are eight other accused in the case, including former KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni.Panday appeared before the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban on Thursday.
His tax matter will also be heard in court on that date as the matter was postponed for the disclosure of the case docket.The last time Panday appeared in court, on 7 October, his bid to appeal a decision denying him bail was The state alleges that Panday was effectively in control of several entities which had received payments from the South African Police Services in an amount of approximately R47 million owing to a corrupt relationship with members of the Supply Chain Management Division of the Saps.
