The destruction of the 2004 Campbelltown tornado destroyed nearly 500 acres of crops, killed six farm animals, and demolished nine farm buildings, including one
’s on the Brandt family farm.
“I noticed it was getting really dark to the back, and my brother started milking in the barn,” Brandt said.“I never heard of a tornado in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. You hear ‘em in the mid-west all the time,” Brandt said.“And I was sliding across the concrete crouched down, and I flopped down along my belly, laid along a poured concrete wall, and covered up my head,” Brandt said.
“Even though we've gone through and tried to pick out the metal, it just, the combine had to just stop all the time for metal trying to go through,” Brandt said. “It was incredible that when it all happened, the power of it. Just a couple seconds and then the amazing thing was five minutes after happened you walked outside, and it was so quiet. I mean the sun was out,” Brandt said.Then, volunteers began pouring in to help with clean up efforts.Due to their efforts, he said in only 10 days they were able to rebuild the barn and get the animals back in.
