Houston is ready for Cinco de Mayo fiestas with special margaritas, food and drink specials, mariachis and even luchador wrestling.
Shaken. Stirred. Frozen. Shots. Come May 5 the tequila will be flowing in Houston, showing up throughout the area in margaritas and other festive cocktails that mark one of the city’s biggest party days.
We’re talking about Cinco de Mayo, of course. The date that marks the 1862 Battle of Puebla when the Mexican army triumphed over the French has turned into a double-fisted celebration of Mexican culture in the United States. That means all things tequila and tacos; margaritas and mariachis; cerveza and song.
This year after two years of subdued parties and outright scuttling of some of the biggest bashes, Cinco de Mayo returns in full regalia. Houston restaurants are ready to turn up the fiesta heat. Here are some of the best bets from Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants and bars.Montrose restaurant will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. with $6 margaritas, palomas, and frozen cocktails. Entertainment by The UH Mariachi Pumas from 7 to 8 p.m.
