The wife of the man accused of killing five people in a mass shooting in San Jacinto County has been arrested and accused of helping her husband elude capture during a four-day manhunt.
Authorities believe Oropeza fled from the scene on foot. A neighbor, Adrian Browning, said Oropeza dumped some things in his yard as he ran from the scene of the shooting. As the search fanned out into the nearby woods and beyond, scent-tracking dogs lost his trail Saturday.
Last June Lamar Nava had asked a judge for a restraining order against Oropeza, Dillon said. Deputies were unable to find him to serve the order, and ultimately she withdrew the complaint. “I was just crying ,” Salinas said. “I don’t know if it was joy that they got him or something. Just relief. I hugged my husband, everybody, my whole family.”
