“Very rough night,’’ Officer Truman Fitzgerald said after two shootings left three people dead in Birmingham.
Gunfire erupted about 10:30 p.m. in one neighborhood, leaving a man and woman dead.
When they arrived, they found an adult female unresponsive inside a residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the woman dead. Just 20 minutes later, West Precinct officers responded to shots fired in the 2800 block of 29th Place in Ensley. Once at that location, police found an adult dead on the porch of an apartment unit.
Thursday night’s deaths mark the city’s 87th, 88th, and 89th homicides of the year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 122 homicides including the 89 in Birmingham.
