At least 1 dead after crash leads to explosions, fires on Hwy. 401 in Pickering: OPP
The collision occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Brock Road. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said one of the two tanker trucks involved was carrying a full load of a “highly flammable” fuel.
“The collision involved three vehicles altogether, two tractor-trailers and another passenger vehicle. I can tell you all three vehicles have been consumed by fire.” “The two presumed occupants in the passenger vehicle at this point are unaccounted for but we do not believe they are injured… Apparently witnesses reported them getting out of the vehicle. We have not yet identified them,” he said.“We have bridge engineers from the MTO coming to inspect the bridge. The road surface as well will likely have significant damage that will need remediation,” he said.
