The girls were 10 and 15 years old, police say.
The blaze was reported at 12:51 a.m., and the single-family home in the 600 block of Linden Avenue was engulfed in flames when police arrived, a news release says.
A 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman escaped the home, but the girls were trapped on the second floor, police said. Firefighters were able to rescue the girls, and they were taken to St. Luke’s and Lehigh Valley hospitals, but they died, police said. The cause of the fire is being investigated by police, the Dewey Fire Company fire marshal and a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, police said.Tony Rhodin can be reached at
