The streets are a bit safer thanks to swift action by law enforcement officers who recently caught and arrested suspects alleged to have been dealing drugs.
According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department , one man was arrested when EMPD community liaison unit officers responded to a tip-off they received from a community member.
EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa says the police received a tip-off about an illegal hawker selling dagga to the community. “When the 26-year-old noticed the officers were a step closer to him, he tried to run, but they cornered him. “The officers did a body search on him and searched his house. They uncovered 26 Ziplock bags of dagga in his trouser pocket and bags of marijuana in his house, before they handcuffed him and took him to the police station,” she explains. They handcuffed a 46-year-old male found on site and took him to the KwaThema Police Station after finding 38 small pieces of rock, six Ziplock bags of crystal meth, and a homemade knife.
Both suspects, facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, and of possession of a dangerous weapon, are expected to appear at the relevant magistrate’s court soon.
