The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is one of Marvel's most relatable heroes... most of the time. Over Marvel history, Peter Parker has suffered some truly horrifying transformations - here are the 15 most twisted.
The heart of the Marvel Universe has always been Spider-Man, and despite always facing the toughest odds, Peter Parker never gives up or walks away from a challenge. But the wall-crawler’s life has had some pretty dark chapters in it, many of which have seen Spider-Man transformed into terrifying monsters.
14 Spider-Lizard Spider-Man’s relationship with Dr. Curt Conners has always been a bit rough due to Conners’ animalistic alternate identity the Lizard. But Peter found himself walking a mile in Conners’ scaly shoes in Spectacular Spider-Man #39. After being exposed to the Enervator, a fight with Schizoid Man triggers Peter’s overactive system and turns him into Spider-Lizard. In the end, it was Conners who ironically stopped Peter from losing his mind to his primal transformation.
11 Spider-Hulk The radioactive spider that bit Peter’s life is generally shown to make Peter’s life better. But on Earth-122, the bite endowed Peter with a terrible curse. With Peter suffering from a mysterious condition, Bruce Banner treated him with a gamma-irradiated spider. As gamma rays do, the bite turned Spider-Man into a Hulk-like creature, but with spider-like enhancements. Not wanting to spend his life fighting and running, Spider-Hulk allowed himself to be captured.
8 Spiders-Man One of the most disturbing Spider-Man variants in the Spider-Verse is the Peter Parker of Earth-11580. Rather than one arachnid, this version of Peter was devoured by an entire colony of radioactive spiders. But the colony transformed from a collection of independent spiders to a swarm that shared Peter’s consciousness. Assembling a body made out of thousands of spiders, the colony became Spiders-Man, with Peter’s consciousness guiding them.
5 Savage Spider-Man Peter’s enemies never fail to find some way to force him to undergo some kind of hideous mutation. Savage Spider-Man #1 saw Peter fighting Baron Zemo, a confrontation that ends with him being a tainted version of a drug called A-Plus. The drug gives Peter his ‘Savage Spider-Man’ form, a large spider-like creature with the ability to shoot mind-controlling red webbing from his mouth.
