A ceremony is being held to honour 15 Cape Bretoners with Her Majesty, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal in Sydney on Dec. 5. HandOutSYDNEY, N.S. — A ceremony is being held to honour 15 Cape Bretoners with Her Majesty, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal at Riverview High School in Sydney on Dec. 5.
Residents who made a significant contribution to their communities will be presented with a medal featuring the Queen's likeness and Canadian title, which symbolizes and recognizes their dedication and service. Cape Breton East MLA Brian Comer said recognizing the often-unsung heroes of the Cape Breton communities is one of the best parts of his job.
“It’s an honour to pay tribute to volunteers, professionals and engaged community members who enrich our lives in a diverse number of ways,” said Comer.Gordon Farmer, Neil MacVicar, Denise McDonnell, Ted Morrison, Dena Edwards-Wadden, David Witzell, Charles Collins, Dr. Mandat Maharaj, John Timothy Dunlap, Chris March, Bruce MacDonald, Gilbert MacIntyre, David Ogbuah, Michael Seth and JoAnna LaTulipe-Rochon are being honoured during the ceremony.The ceremony will take place between 6-8 p.m.
