City guidebooks tend to ignore San Francisco’s southwestern corner, but the area has a lot to offer.
Technically the fire pits at Ocean Beach are on the Outer Richmond side of the shore, but this is a not-to-be-missed experience that's just minutes from the Outer Sunset.
After all, it doesn’t get more California-dreaming than a bonfire on the beach. At fog-swept Ocean Beach, you're likely to enjoy your bonfire while bundled in winter layers, especially at the height of summer, when coastal San Francisco is at its coldest. Still, the scene is quintessential SF, as music and the smell of barbecue mingles with the crisp ocean air. Fires are permitted in designated fire pits March 1 through October 31 until 9:30 p.m. No fires are permitted November through February in order to preserve air quality.
