Some students have been forced to take part in graduation ceremonies despite not knowing what degree they have achieved, while others are stuck in limbo and may be unable to start jobs poppyeh reports:

Raj Jethwa, chief executive of the UCEA, said during a press conference on Friday that the boycott “is a fundamental issue right now” and that the situation “never needed to be like this”.

Vivienne Stern, chief executive of UUK, said she was “reasonably confident that things are moving in the right direction” and that the Home Office was drawing up guidance to support international students. Jo Grady, general secretary of the UCU, said it was “time for the UCEA to stop the truth twisting and get back to the negotiating table with a better offer”.

The UCEA has said that a stronger union presence at research-intensive universities such as Cambridge, Durham and other Russell Group universities has meant students at those institutions may be particularly affected.
