Optimistic and hardworking Isabella Heber inspires other young people to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals by breaking down barriers to success in golf.
The 12-year-old Royal Cape Club Champs winner says that very few girls from the Cape Flats participate due to the sport’s exorbitant costs.Heber is a member of the King David Mowbray Golf Club, and she has been playing the sport since she was six years old.
Heber says she practises whenever she can, and last year she received a brand new set of fitted clubs from a big golf brand after her parents contacted them to ask for a payment plan, but when they saw how well she played, they offered to sponsor a new set of clubs so she could get better. This wish is what keeps her head held high despite her circumstances, which have denied her many opportunities. But, for the same reason, she is determined to work hard in order to obtain scholarships to study and play in America at the college level.‘I’m working hard now to try and win the provincial champ of champs tournament so that I can again represent the province at the national event, but this time in the championship division.

Green Industrial Age Can Be Sustainable Development BreakthroughThe United Nations has called for a "sustainable industrial transformation" to close the widening development gap between countries, meet ambitious climate targets, and reach the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. According to the World Bank 2023 report titled Financing for Sustainable Development Report: Financing Sustainable Transformations, growth across Sub-Saharan Africa remains sluggish. The report blames the climate crisis, the war in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and debt payments up to two times higher than in 2019, as having put massive fiscal pressures on most developing countries, limiting the ability to fund transformation. Debt distress risks remain high with 22 countries in the region at high risk of external debt distress or in debt distress as of December 2022. The report suggests that "urgent, massive investment" is needed to accelerate a positive transformation of the electricity supply industry, farming, transportation, and construction. The UN suggests that launching critical transformations in energy, food and education to usher in a new green industrial and digital age will quicken the pace and leave no one behind.
