Whitsett said searchers initially feared Shunghla may have been swept up in the ice-cold and fast-flowing Cle Elum River, which is currently being fed by spring runoff. She became separated from her extended family, a group that included more than 20 people, while crossing over a pedestrian bridge in the valley just after noon last Sunday.
