Despite the ostensible hype surrounding another James Cameron-inspired Terminator movie, there are many reasons why it's an awful idea.

There are several significant reasons why Terminator 7 is a terrible idea. The struggling franchise has failed time and time again to find a convincing way to reboot and continue the once-celebrated Terminator narrative. Even with James Cameron's announcement that he will be penning Terminator 7's screenplay, the effort might prove to be too little, too late for a franchise that hasn't been very profitable or appreciated by fans in over three decades.

9 James Cameron's Terminator 7 Confirmation Means It Isn't A Proper Reboot Despite the genius of James Cameron and the critical acclaim of the first two Terminator films under his direction, the franchise at large would certainly benefit from a proper reboot in the long run. Cameron's sensibilities for his original installments, much like Michael Bay with his Transformers franchise, laid the foundation for other directors and writers to take over.

7 Terminator's Machines Are Too Repetitive & Uninspired Each installment of the Terminator franchise essentially tells the same story and fails to update the main characters and villains in compelling ways. Judgment Day introduced the advanced T-1000 which was a great addition to the original Terminator. However, many of the other new machines in the later installments are essentially slight variations from the T-1000, making them ultimately too predictable and uninspired.

4 Terminator: Dark Fate Was A Box Office Bomb 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate performed incredibly poorly at the box office, reigning in the lowest global box-office performance in the history of the Terminator franchise. Even the return of leading actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor couldn't save the film from a devastatingly dark fate. The film bombed at the box office, pulling in roughly $250 million with a staggering $185 million budget.
