Whether it’s from a faster 40-yard dash time or higher vertical leap than anyone expected or a strong showing in positional drills, some players will leave Indianapolis having turned heads. We saw it last year with now-Eagle Jordan Davis’ jaw-dropping 40-yard dash and now-Colt Jelani Woods’ record-setting time for a tight end taller than 6-foot-7.
With the 2023 NFL Combine starting on Tuesday, here are 10 guys in this year’s class that are poised to “win” the NFL Combine and raise their stock before heading home at the end of the week.Of all of the quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft class, it’s the Florida passer who might have the highest ceiling. Richardson’s tools—his size, athleticism, arm strength, etc.—are some of the most exciting we’ve seen since Josh Allen in 2018.
Generally speaking, Richardson is the rawer prospect. The NFL Combine is Richardson’s opportunity to prove that his tools—particularly his mobility and potentially even his arm strength—are more enticing than Levis’, which would give the former Gator a real shot at being the first overall pick in this draft.As of right now, Hyatt is probably on the outside looking in at being a first-round pick in this draft class.
In Indianapolis, Hyatt can win by showing off his top-end speed in the 40-yard dash and running those vertical routes against air, yes, but he can also demonstrate his quickness in and out of breaks that could project well to a more developed route tree. In addition, he could win over more scouts if he shows up to the NFL Combine with added weight to his slender frame.Smith-Njigba already enters this year’s NFL Combine firmly in position as one of the top wide receivers in this draft class.
The biggest keys to Smith-Njigba coming out of Indianapolis with a win are continuing to show off how clean that route-running is and, potentially, running a faster 40 time than anyone projected. If the former Buckeye can put up a time in the low 4.5s, it could be enough to raise his draft stock and ceiling to potential WR1 status in this class.
