What exactly went wrong with these anime remakes?

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Anime and live-action adaptations usually don’t go well together, as is evident from some terrible adaptations that ruin their source material. Westernized disasters like Dragon Ball Evolution and Netflix’s Death Note movie along with even Japanese productions like movies on Devilman and Terra Formars bear testimony to this fact.

10 Lupin The Third Lupin III aka Lupin the Third has entertained a cult fanbase with its titular master thief’s exploits ever manga artist Monkey Punch kickstarted the franchise in 1967. As reported by Anime News Network in 2003, Schindler’s List and Minority Report producer Gerald R. Molen purchased the live-action film rights for a potential movie . Molen suggested that creative licenses would be taken to adapt the story but the five main characters would definitely be featured.

6 Neon Genesis Evangelion Hideaki Anno’s seminal work Neon Genesis Evangelion ambitiously merged dystopian sci-fi with philosophy and is usually mentioned in talks about live-action anime adaptations that Hollywood needs and in 2003, the seeds of a potential movie were birthed. ADV Films was on board with the anime’s production studio Gainax. Concept art and a rough script draft were confirmed while John Woo was rumored to produce.

4 Gundam There are high chances that even non-anime fans know about Gundam considering the massive impact it has had on the military sci-fi genre and the global toy market . A long-running rumor among the Gundam fanbase has been that Hollywood planned a Gundam movie back in the 1980s. The Gundam-centric site Zimmerit has supported this claim by recovering an interview that concept artist Syd Mead gave to the now-defunct Anime News Service.
