A good career does not guarantee that an actor will stick the landing for every role, and there are plenty of examples throughout film and TV history.
Fine acting talent has not always indicated versatility, and there are many examples of revered actors who were horribly miscast in specific major roles throughout film history. Sometimes, when at the peak of their fame, an actor might deem themselves capable of venturing outside their dramatic or comedic comfort zones, and often this results in a bizarre, unconvincing attempt. Studios can be at fault, too.
8 George Clooney As Batman After the beloved performances by Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer as the Dark Knight, E/R actor George Clooney was also keen to bathe in the adulation that a good Batman turn can get. Appearing as the Caped Crusader in Batman & Robin, Clooney suffered the cartoonishness of Joel Schumacher’s Gotham, which was thereafter remembered for distasteful costumes and unfunny puns. Though he often makes jokes about it, Clooney hated his Batman performance for good reason.
