It happened shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 17 north of Palmetto Bluff Road.
Troopers said two motorcyclists -- a 66-year-old man from Clarkston, Michigan, and a 32-year-old woman from Waterford, Michigan -- were traveling north in the outside lane, along with a third motorcyclist. According to troopers, the 66-year-old motorcyclist was traveling behind the 32-year-old motorcyclist, and the 32-year-old motorcyclist was driving behind the third motorcyclist.
According to the Highway Patrol, the third motorcyclist and the 32-year-old motorcyclist slowed down because a vehicle exited a parking lot and entered the lane, but the 66-year-old motorcyclist was unable to slow down and struck the back of the 32-year-old’s motorcycle.The Highway Patrol said the 66-year-old was taken to Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition and later died.Troopers said the 32-year-old was not injured.Copyright 2022 by WJXT News4Jax - All rights reserved.
